Upper North Farming Systems is set to host its Annual Members Event next month, covering topics related to the theme of 'Productive and Profitable Soils and Systems'.
The event will provide up to to date information relevant to farmers and advisors in the area, and will be cover livestock and cropping related topics.
CSIRO biogeochemist Mark Farrell is the event's keynote speaker, and will presenting on soil carbon dynamics, as well as how improved agronomic systems can lead to soil health improvement.
Mr Farrell will make a formal presentation in the morning, followed by a trial site visit at the end of the day - established by UNFS and SARDI - with a soil pit inspection and discussion.
At the trial site, farmers and advisors will get a hands-on look at new pasture and rotation options, and soil improving crop mixes that may help to tackle the rising levels of root disease in the area, improve overall soil function and water holding capacity.
Other speakers at the trial site will include Penny Roberts and Sarah Day, SARDI Clare, Beth Sleep, Elders Jamestown, Jess Koch, Breezy Hill Precision Ag and Michael Eyres, Field Systems (Australia) SA.
Jamestown's David Cooper, CC Cooper & Co, will also present on the day, speaking of the enterprise's experience on establishing profitable and rewarding systems through diversification.
