Heifers record highs at Mt Pleasant

Fawcett Livestock's Colin Fawcett, Mount Pleasant, said it was a "simple combination" of supply and demand tug of war.

"It was a very big heifer and in the current price climate, there was always a possibility it could go as it did.

"Cattle prices are getting a bit crazy."

Processors and feedlotters were all active at the market, with more than usual attending, according to Mr Fawcett.

Indavine Pastoral Trust, Lyndoch, made the top price for an Angus heifer, while IS&SL Paech, Wynarka, made $1880 for a Hereford.

R Pearce, Mount Torrens, made the same price for a Murray Grey heifer and $2420 for five cows, while Len Owen, Netherby, made $1800 for one Murray Grey.

Mr Fawcett said steers with better finish were also in demand and met with good competition.

MJ Place, Sandy Creek, made $2480 for three Murray Grey steers and J Colquhoun, Birdwood, $2300, for one Murray Grey.

Lambs made to $242 for four from DW Kubenk & Sons, Tepko, and Mount Hein, Murray Bridge, also made $242, for three.

Nalpa Pastoral, Nalpa, made $214 for six and R&J Sweetman, Red Creek, also made $214.

The next Mount Pleasant market will be held on August 5 and 12.

D Fountain, Murray Bridge, made $190 for one ewe and DM Anderson, Mount Pleasant, $180, for three.

Kym Abbott, Eden Valley, made six ewes for $180 and A Kavanagh, Echunga, for two $180.
