FARMERS on Kangaroo Island can apply for up to $50,000 to help with the installation and repairing of on-farm water infrastructure to help the industry recover from bushfires.
This KI-focused round of the On-farm Water Infrastructure Rebate Scheme allows eligible producers to apply for rebates of up to 50 per cent towards the costs associated with water infrastructure for livestock and permanent horticulture.
Primary Industries and Regional Development Minister David Basham said KI farmers could apply for grants from the $600,000 program to improve water security.
"The program is aimed at providing long term certainty for KI farmers when it comes to water storage, particularly after being impacted by the devastating bushfires," he said.
"Water security and storage have been ongoing issues for KI farmers so it is important to be able to offer on-farm water infrastructure grants to help farmers become more resilient to future adverse events."
Mr Basham said this support of water infrastructure works would go a long way towards the protection of high-end value livestock and permanent plantings of horticulture.
"Opening a special round of the On-farm Water Infrastructure Rebate Scheme for KI farmers is the latest support the SA government is providing to bushfire-affected producers and builds on other programs which have been in place," he said.
"The rebate scheme will continue to deliver practical support for our farmers to complete critical on-farm water infrastructure projects such as water storages, pumps, pipes, de-silting dams to maintain a more reliable and sustainable water supply into the future."
Mr Basham said the funding was available for applicants that had already completed eligible water infrastructure activities or ones planning to undertake those projects on their farms.
It also includes costs associated with the purchase, delivery and installation of new infrastructure or repairs and upgrades to existing infrastructure from July 1, 2019 through to June 30. 2022.
Applications will close when funding is exhausted or at 5pm on October 31 this year - whichever occurs first.
The Kangaroo Island On-farm Water Infrastructure Rebate Scheme is jointly funded by the state and federal governments.
