A large gallery of buyers filled the Stoney Point sale complex at Naracoorte on Thursday last week to attend the Belmore Invitational Sale.
Belmore Shorthorns, Naracoorte, hosted the sale, with guest vendors Bayview Shorthorns, Yorketown, and Carlton, Hahndorf, also offering their best genetics, that helped the sale to a $22,000 top price, twice.
Overall, 47 bulls were sold of 43 offered, topping at $22,000, twice, and averaging $10,255.
The individual stud breakdown consisted of Belmore that achieved the equal $22,000 sale top price and offered 35 bulls and sold 31, for a $10,677 average.
Carlton also topped the sale at $22,000 and cleared all of its five bull offered, for a $9000 average, while Bayview topped at $18,000 and sold six out of seven bulls offered for a $13,000 average.
The first bull under the hammer to make $22,000 was Belmore Quantum Q215 that sold to Keith and Vicki Ridley, Condobolin, NSW.
The 22-month-old sire had solid performance figures, ranking in the top four per cent for docility.
The 868-kilogram bull also had an eye muscle area of 116 square centimetres and a 39cm scrotal circumference, as well as 6 millimetre rib fat and 9mm for rump.
Belmore principal Andy Withers said the result for the first 20 bulls in the catalogue was "staggering".
"It was the most even lineup we have ever offered at a sale.
"We were very happy with the support, interest from interstate and pastoral buyers was high."
Mr Withers said Belmore Quantum Q215 was a "beautifully balanced" bull.
"It ticked all the boxes."
Its sire, Belmore Quantur G193, has sired the past three top price bulls at the stud's sales.
Yorketown stud's Carlton Quintara made the $22,000 equal top price that sold to Tintinara producer, Riverside Holdings, that also runs properties in SA and NT.
The 25-month-old bull weighed 930kg and boasted a 126 sqcm EMA.
One of the last sons from sire Carlton Jazz Ruler, it also had a 35.5cm scrotal circumference and a 6mm rib and 7mm rump, with a 1.9kg daily weight gain.
Stud manager Josh Wiltshire said the stud had collected semen from Carlton Quintara to use over stud heifers this year.
"He was the pick of the team.
"Its sire was the 2014 Royal Adelaide Show interbreed champion and it carried the same soft and easy doing traits."
Buyer Matt Nicolle, Robe, said Carlton Quintara will be used over commercial heifers in May.
"It was a great bull and will go over select heifers."
Bayview Boxer Q100 made the equal $18,000 second-highest price.
Sired by Glengyron Legacy, it was in the top 10pc of the breed for docility and had a 36cm scrotal circumference.
The 21-month-old weighed 728kg and was bought by Victorian stud Chester Shorthorns, Krowera.
Bayview stud principal Chris Thompson, Yorketown, said the sale offered an opportunity to offer the stud's genetics to new clients.
"The top price bull was very correct and moderate. It will do a great job for the stud."
Nutrien Ag Solutions sale auctioneer Gordon Wood said despite the sale not achieving "lofty heights", the sale average showed it was a "rock solid" sale.
"The top price bulls were a combination of the correct pedigree, data and phenotype."
The sale was conducted by Elders and Nutrien Ag Solutions Naracoorte.
