FOR THE first time, this year the Ardrossan community will be gathering at a new location for their Anzac Day dawn service.
The town's new war memorial, situated on top of the Ardrossan cliffs, was completed shortly before Remembrance Day last year, and will be the location for a 6am dawn service on Sunday.
Ardrossan RSL immediate past secretary Jean England said the idea to build the memorial had been "in the pipeline" for a few years, with official council permission granted in July last year.
"There has been really good community support for the memorial," she said.
"A lot of the people who were involved in building it donated their time, and everyone thinks it's lovely.
"A fair few visitors who have come in to the town say it's one of the best memorials they've seen - we're pretty proud of that."

The memorial has plaques with the army, navy and airforce emblems, as well as other serving personnel organisations.
Following the dawn service, there will be a gunfire breakfast held at the Ardrossan RSL.
There will be no 11am service in Ardrossan this year, due to COVID-19 restrictions.
"We're hoping for a good turnout at the dawn service," Ms England said.
"I think it's really important that we commemorate each year."
