Springvale North-bld ewe lambs climb to $284 at Jamestown

The line of 182 April/May 2020-drop Springvale North-blds from GK,JL&JK Noll, Wilmington, sold to Nutrien Ag Kadina.

But, ewe lambs from other well-known bloodlines continued to underpin the sale, with ML&SM Borgas, Booleroo Centre, making $260 for October-shn Moorundie-blds that sold to Wardle & Co, Maitland.

B Schiller Livestock, Eudunda, made $245 for 51 ewe lambs averaging 46.8kg. The Pindari-blds sold to Nutrien Ag Kadina.

The young scanned in lamb ewe section made to $260 for 96 April/May 2019-drop scanned in lamb Carricowie-blds from RK,JJ,JK Murdoch, Warooka, and sold to Nutrien Ag Peterborough. The ewes averaged 53.6kg.

R&S Lang, Georgetown, made $248 for 68 January-shn Sunnybrae-bld SIL to White Suffolk ewes that sold to Elders Gladstone.

Black Rock Ag, Orroroo, made $232 for 64 June/July 2019-drop Leahcim-bld ewes that sold to Nutrien Ag Melrose.

AN Kirkland, Balaklava, made $272 for 117 SIL April/May 2018-drop Kelvale/Nyowee/Baderloo-bld ewes averaging 62.4kg that sold to Nutrien Ag Melrose.

Nutrien Ag Solutions Jamestown head auctioneer Shannon Jaeschke said market prices "exceeded" expectations, in particular, demand for quality feeder weight lambs.

"Ewe lambs with good weight for age sold exceptionally well," he said.

Four-year-old ewes made to $210 for 58 Carricowie-blds from RK,JJ,JK Murdoch that sold to Nutrien Peterborough.

RW Potter, Tumby Bay, made $196 for 96 2017/18/19-drop Brimanna-bld ewes averaging 65.2kg to Elders Gladstone.

But SIL 5yo ewes from AN Kirkland topped the section at $236 for 124 Glenville-blds joined to White Suffolk averaging 65.7kg and sold to Spence Dix & Co, Jamestown.

Older ewes reached a top of $248 for Menteng Proprietary Limited's, Cambrai,159 April/May 2015-drop Bundarra-blds that had run with Poll Merino/Merino rams since November and sold to Wardle & Co, Maitland.

The 6yo SIL section $240 top price was also made by AN Kirkland for 159 White River-blds that averaged 67.3kg and sold to Wardle & Co, Maitland.

TR,LP&RJ Ellis, Jamestown, offered 250, hefty 79.1kg 6yo SIL North Ashrose/Anitay Park-blds that sold to Wardle & Co, Maitland, for $232.

The Cooper family, CC Cooper & Co, Jamestown, made a substantial offering of 6000 sheep at Jamestown market on Thursday, with the draft reaching a top of $185 for 258 July/August 2020-drop Gum Hill/Gunbar-bld wethers that sold to Princess Royal, Burra.

A further 971 January/February-shn wethers made $180 and went the same way.

Prices ranged from $96 to $150 for the Cooper family's remaining wether offering, with 1400 Gum Hill/Gunbar-bld wethers averaging 33.1kg secured by Nutrien Ag Murray Bridge and Riverton at an equal split for $150.

But it was JR&MG Wehrmann, Belalie, that offered a run of 266 Moorundie Park-bld wethers and made the $198 wether top price. They also offered a further 91 and made $174, with Thomas Foods International securing the lot.

G&B Rowe, Hawker, made $185 for 188 Greenfields-bld June/July 2020-drop wethers that sold to Princess Royal.

RK,JJ,JK Murdoch made $172 for 236 Carricowie-bld wethers that sold to Nutrien Ag Jamestown, the Murdochs also made $155 for 271 wethers that sold to Hill Livestock, Crystal Brook.

Crossbred lambs were few and far between and topped at $157 for 120 woolly September/October 2020-drop White Suffolk/Merino crossbred lambs from AR&JA Mannion,Orroroo, that sold to Elders Eudunda.

Elders Jamestown livestock manager Scott Fleetwood said higher ewe lamb prices were most likely caused by breeders hoping to secure stock before spring, when numbers could dwindle.

"Scanned in Lamb ewe prices were hard to forecast because the South East is yet to scan, so demand will be there for at least another six weeks," he said.
