THE Ouyen Livestock Exchange held its first sheep market for 2021 yesterday, with premiums paid for short-skinned lambs, while woolly, longer dry skinned lambs were discounted.
Overall, 9165 lambs and 1680 mutton were offered, totalling 10,845 head.
Two vendors topped the crossbred lamb section at $275 a head - Wegner Bros, Karoonda, with 113 suckers, and T Grant, Manangatang, Vic, with 63.
New season export sucker lambs ranged from $204 to $275, or $7.20 a kilogram to $8.20/kg, while trade types made $139-$210 or $7.80-$8.60/kg.
CJ&KJ Bormann, Karoonda, sold 39 crossbred lambs at $271, while A&N Hulland, Patchewollock, Vic, sold 119 at $267.
CMR Ag, Manangatang, sold 82 crossbred lambs at $266, while MJ Lynch, Morkalla, Vic, sold 129 at $263, as did M Fitzgerald, Werrimull, Vic, with 55 at $263.
Westbrook Ag, Loxton, sold 160 crossbred lambs at $262, while F Stone, Torrita, Vic, sold 30 at $260.
Heavy Merino lambs sold from $185 to $271, or $7.60-$8/kg, with IBS McVicar, Underbool, Vic, achieving the top price for 67 head.
Wegner Bros also sold 25 Merino lambs at $257, while L&R Plant, Manangatang, sold 86 at $254, as well as 42 mutton at $226.
Heavy mutton sold from $5.70-$6.10/kg.
A&J Stone, Underbool, sold 103 mutton at $214.
Dorper lambs were also sold, with MGN Gibbins, Galah, Vic, achieving the sale top of $229 for 51 head.
WMD Small, Lameroo, sold 45 Dorper lambs at $222, while Moorara Pastoral, Pooncarie, NSW, sold 73 at $218, and Serenity Holdings, Meringur, Vic, sold 44 at $207.
