FRIDAY'S Strathalbyn cattle market once again attracted impressive prices across the entire offering, buoyed by keen restocker interest both locally and interstate.
Nutrien Strathalbyn's Bradley Walker said the lighter cattle attracted good demand, and were slightly dearer than the market a fortnight ago.
Elders Strathalbyn's Danny Reynolds said the prices were were still "red hot", particularly for lighter heifers and heavier steers.
"If you aren't happy with these prices, there is something wrong - the two markets in January this year are at record levels, we're miles ahead on where we were 12 months ago," he said.
Topping the steer offering at $1935 per head, or $4.35 a kilogram, were nine 445kg Angus steers from Mark Ker, Balhannah.
AP Manning, Woodside, wasn't far behind, selling 20 March/April-drop 428kg Angus steers at $1910, or $4.46/kg, bought by TFI.
M&B Anderson, Back Valley, sold four, 192kg, July/August-drop black baldy steers at $1260, or $6.56/kg. They also sold 11 Angus and Angus-cross heifers, 232kg, make $1220, or $5.26/kg.
Strathalbyn vendor TJ Steed sold eight Poll Hereford-Murray Grey steers, 205kg, at $1230, or $6/kg, and 13 heifers, 329kg, at $1160, or $6.11/kg.
RW Young, Kingscote made $1260 per head for 11 May/June Angus cross steers, weighing 207kg, equating to $6.09/kg.
Ball Pastoral Group, Littlehampton, sold nine 420kg February/March-drop Angus steers at $1850, or $4.40/kg, while CPP No 3 Pty Ltd, Woodside, sold seven 237kg Hereford cross steers at $1320, or $5.56/kg.
JM Rankine, Strathalbyn, sold six, 223kg April/May-drop Red Poll-Shorthorn steers at $1240, or $5.56/kg, and another nine 305kg steers of the same drop at $1510, or $4.95/kg.
A line of 16 June-July-drop Angus steers, 264kg, from BE Pile, Yankallila, made $1495, or $5.66/kg, with the vendor also making $1250 or $5.73/kg off five 218kg June/July-drop Angus heifers, and $1420 or $5.11/kg for 10 Angus of the same drop, 278kg.

Corriedale Hills, Inman Valley, offered a quality line of 47 May-June drop Shorthorn steers, selling four 210kg steers at $1200, or $5.71/kg, as well as 18, 260kg steers of the same drop at $1450, or $5.57/kg, and another 25, 300kg Shorthorns at $1500, or $5/kg.
Blackwood Park, Strathalbyn, offered a large line of May/June-drop Granite Ridge-blood Angus steers and heifers, including 16, 376kg steers which made $1730 or $4.60/kg, and another 16, 289kg steers which sold at $1520, or $5.26/kg.
Tooperang Pastoral, Mount Observation, sold four, 223kg Angus steers at $1290, or $5.78/kg, as well as 11, 234kg April/May-drop heifers at $1270, or $5.43/kg.
Benwerrin, Balhannah, had nine 247kg May/June Angus-Murray Grey steers make $1350, or $5.46/kg, while GP Securities, Second Valley, sold 11 Angus steers, 285kg, at $1510, or $5.29/kg.
Making impressive prices per head in the heifer line-up was Lallawa Grazing, Meningie, fetching $1800 or $4.26/kg for 15, 419kg January/February drop Angus heifers, $1710 or $4.38/kg for another 15 Angus weighing 390kg, as well as $1740 or $4.30/kg for 15 black baldies and $1570 or $4.52/kg for 10 Angus weighing 347kg.
Calana Heights, Stokes Bay, KI, sold 21 Angus-Red Poll heifers, 236kg, at $1250, or $5.30/kg.
