IT WAS anything but a slow and steady start to the year in 1973, with butchers up in arms about a proposal to limit their access to buying at Gepps Cross; Monarto farmers were left in limbo through compulsory acquisition talks; and for the first time, the meat trade congregated on Kangaroo Island for three fat cattle sales, including one on Kingscote wharf.
