Butcher battles, Monarto mayhem, Kingscote cattle sales and much more all to start off the year.

IT WAS anything but a slow and steady start to the year in 1973, with butchers up in arms about a proposal to limit their access to buying at Gepps Cross; Monarto farmers were left in limbo through compulsory acquisition talks; and for the first time, the meat trade congregated on Kangaroo Island for three fat cattle sales, including one on Kingscote wharf.

In between this, January and February also hosted the SA Beef Carcase Competition, SA Beef Field Days, the SA Yearling sales and much more.
