The federal government is reportedly considering taking China to the World Trade Organisation over its decision to place tariffs on Australian agricultural produce.
Earlier this year, huge tariffs were placed on Australian barley entering China - which had long been the top export destination for Australian malt barley.
While the move was a massive blow for the sector, opinion among grain leaders about whether Australia should involve the WTO remain divided.
More recently, China announced massive tariffs on Australian wine imports, causing concerns about massive job losses throughout the wine sector.
SA Wine Industry Association chief executive officer Brian Smedley believes the local industry will feel significant pain as a result of the tariffs.
"The bottom line for most companies is that it will make exporting SA wine to China unviable, simply because the duties that have been applied will make it non-profitable," he said.
