NARACOORTE
Yarding: 1688
Steers to $2203
Heifers to $1794
VENDOR returns were again strong at the Naracoorte combined agents' monthly store cattle sale in what was a large yarding for a November market.
Enticed by the continued strength of cattle prices, vendors sent in 1688 head to be sold on Thursday last week.
Southern Australia Livestock agent Will Nolan said the sale was strong from start to finish, with returns on heifers not far behing the steers.
"The heaviest end of the steers were perhaps a little bit cheaper than the previous sale, but the middle run of cattle - your 300 kilogram to 400kg cattle - sold very well and were equal to or perhaps slightly above October," he said.
Mr Nolan said local buyers, as well as feedlotters from Southern Vic and SA as far as the Lower North were very active.
"Numbers were about as good as they've ever been for a November store sale, only a week before the first weaner sale," he said.
"A lot of blokes that had cattle in the paddock probably sold prior to when they normally would to take advantage of the money and opportunity that's out there."
