Many wool brokers believe producers are storing more wool from their spring shearing on-farm at the moment, with the volume flowing into wool stores lower than anticipated.
"As far as what percentage of production that is, it is still unknown, but it could be as high as 10 to 15 per cent," Nutrien Ag Solutions' David Hart said.
He said there were a lot of variables and different factors to consider when deciding when to sell.
"Some people need the cash flow, so the decision is easy for them because they get it in and get it sold, accepting whatever the market is," he said.
But he said other people have more options, and within that, there are a range of views.
"Some producers chose to store their wool on-farm and those are people that are usually taking a longer-term view, being prepared to sit on that wool for quite a while," he said.
