A SOLID turnout of buyers at the Murray Bridge ewe and lamb sale on Monday were keen to snatch up the small but high-quality yarding, with the sale reaching $300, a $40 improvement on last year's final Murray Bridge sale.
Nutrien Murray Bridge livestock agent Kevin Keller said demand was strong throughout the sale, but particularly for hoggets.
"There weren't many 1.5yo here, but many buyers were chasing them, so good money was paid for them, and breeding ewes sold really well as well," he said.
Elders Murray Bridge livestock manager Justin Robertson said ewes sold about $20 better than expected, and were "exceptionally well presented".
Topping the sale was a line of 50 July-shorn Gunallo-blood April/May 2019-drop ewes from GB&WR Schenke, Brinkley, which sold at $300, knocked down to EA Schiller, Perponda. The Schenkes also sold 134, 5.5yo ewes at $212.
BL&CL Burbidge, Ettrick, were not far behind, making $294 for 109 June/July 2019-drop Benefield-blds. They also offered 525 June/July-drop wether lambs which made $131, while another 325 made $122 and 100 made $100.
A line of 140, 1.5yo Pindari-blds from Rocky Downs, Murray Bridge, sold at $288, while RN&LA Bald and Sons, Ettrick, sold 142, 1.5yo Benefield-blds at $274.
GA & JK Wagenknecht, Murray Bridge, sold 75, June/July 2019-drop Ridgway/Gunallo-blds at $278, as well as 73, 4.5yo ewes at $216, and 52, 5.5yo ewes at $246.

SN&CA Paech, Tepko, made $264 off a pen of 50 April/May 2019-drop Ridgway blds, and also sold 128, 2016-drop ewes at $238, and 42, 2015-drop ewes at $182.
Forest Lane Farms, Sedan, made $251 for 52, 1.5yo Moorundie Pk-blds.
In the 3.5yo ewe offering, PJ&SD Hensel, Sherlock, had 31 April/May 2017-drop Pindari-blds sell at $172, and also sold 60, 5.5yo ewes at $188.
HT Hein, Pallamana, sold 54 May/June 2015/16-drop Pepperwell-blds at $200, and also made $139 for 48 May/June-drop ewe lambs.
JG Richards & Sons, Brinkley, made $210 off 205 April/May-2015-drop Gunallo-blds, while DJ Fromm & Son, Walker Flat, sold 82, 5.5yo Kamora Netley Park-blds at $202.
Neina Hill, Murray Bridge, sold 84 2016-drop Pindari-blds at $208, while $184 was made for 253, 5.5yo Sherlock-blds from GL Lutz and FL Northey, Tailem Bend.
A pen of 56 April/May 2015-drop Dalveen-blds from MC&JE Pope & Sons, Brinkley, sold at $172, with the same vendor making $150 for 96, 6.5yo ewes.
RJ Wittwer, Karoonda, made $143 for 30 April/May-drop Woodoona-bld ewe lambs.
