ALAN Lintern's Seymour Vale Suffolk stud enjoyed a successful debut sale at the Mount Pleasant saleyards on Thursday last week, with all 19 rams sold to a $937 average.
Held prior to the Mount Pleasant market, a healthy buying and viewing crowd watched on as bidding climbed to $1600 twice, with both top price rams bought by Matthew Neldner, Tanunda.
The ram offered at lot three weighed in at 127 kilograms, with figures of 0.61 for birthweight, a 9.01 weaning weight, 13.38 post weaning weight, -0.45 PFAT, 0.25 PEMD and 129.61 on the terminal carcase production index.
It had a Lamb Eating Quality index of 126.17 and a Trade $ index of 109.87.
Mr Neldner's other purchase was a 115kg twin, with a 0.50 BWT, 8.69 WWT, 13.06 PWWT, -0.66 PFAT, -0.22 PEMD, as well as a 123.87 TCP, 119.19 LEQ and 108.54 TRADE$.
Mr Lintern was rapt with the result.
"I didn't expect it to go as well as it did," he said.
"The rams presented really well and the agents got some buyers organised so I'm a bit speechless.
"We're breeding for early maturity and carcase more than anything. Aiming for those positive fats and positive EMDs."
The sale was conducted by Nutrien Fawcett Livestock, with Nutrien stud stock's Gordon Wood the auctioneer.
