BUYERS bid with confidence at Sharlu Park Merino and Poll Merino stud's annual sale at Truro on Wednesday last week, helping lift the clearance rate and auction average.
Thirty registered buyers showed a keen interest in the line-up of 60 large-framed, plain-bodied rams with well-nourished wool in the 19 micron to 21M range. Fifty-eight rams sold to $4000 and averaged $1317.
The $4000 top price Poll Merino ram was catalogued at lot 3 and sold to long-term clients MS&RJ Dittrich, Truro. The had a 21.4M fleece with wool measurements of 3.2 standard deviation, 15.1 coefficient of variation and 98.9 per cent comfort factor, and carried bloodlines from the Rices Creek ram bought at the Adelaide Ram Sale for $12,000.
The Dittrich family have been using Sharlu Park Bloodlines for several years and were once again happy with the rams offered at the sale, taking three in total.
Nutrien Minlaton, operating for Roseville Farming, Curramulka, secured the top price Merino ram for $3000. This large-framed animal had well-nourished, long-stapled, 20.5M wool with a 98.9CF. This ram was a son of a Greenfields ram purchased at the Adelaide Ram Sale for $12,000.

AJ Prior, Ebenezer, secured four rams, heading up his purchases with an impressive Poll Merino for $3600. He averaged $2475 across his selection.
Other volume buyers included AB&MC Tohl and Sons, who bought four rams including two at $1800 each. Pastoral buyer Nundora Station secured eight rams averaging $800.
Stud principal Luke Saegenschnitter said the offering represented the stud's breeding objectives of focusing on commercially-orientated, early-maturing rams with large frames. He was pleased with the white, bright wools on offer, overall a pleasing line-up considering the ongoing dry conditions.
Sharlu Park has also been an active buyer this ram sale season, buying the top price Merino ram at White River stud's Poochera sale for $13,500 in partnership with Oakfarms stud, Buckleboo. This ram was a son of Wallaloo Park 112, which sold for $52,000 in 2018.
Nutrien auctioneer Leo Redden was impressed with the line-up, describing it as good value for money.
