In July, 1968, the states pork industry was booming, with the very popular Porker and Baconer Carcase competition taking place, as well as the Gladstone pig market making record-breaking prices.
SA's branch of the Jersey Herd Society held its general meeting and the Ninth International Congress of Soil Science was held in Adelaide.
A couple of out the box events also made it to the pages of the Stock Journal that year, with the Freedom from Hunger campaign releasing homeing pigeons to spread the word to 15 country towns across SA and the Elizabeth Mud Trophy motorbike riding competition was also covered.
