COMMUNITIES along the SA-Vic border have been thrown into a state of chaos, with many potentially being locked out of work, study and medical care and family members being isolated from each other.
They are calling on the SA and Vic governments to find a workable solution, including travel bubbles, to the lock-out, which they describe as a potential economic and emotional catastrophe.
From today, the only Vic individuals eligible to enter SA under the cross-border community arrangement are agricultural and farm workers with properties within 40 kilometres of the border, and students completing year 11 and 12.
The state government says it will consider exemptions for those that can prove they are essential travellers on a case-by-case basis.
It says its number one focus is keeping SA's population safe and SA Police Commissioner Grant Stevens says tight border restrictions are needed to reduce the spread of COVID-19 cases from Vic into SA.
