A RISE of nearly $800 on the 2019 sale average and a new stud record top price of $8000 have headlined a successful second annual on-property ram sale for Baderloo Poll Merinos in Washpool on Tuesday.
With 64 bidders on property and more than 100 registered with AuctionsPlus, stud principals Daniel and Mel Hammat sold all 120 rams on offer to an average of $2694, eclipsing the $1904 sale average from their inaugural on-property sale last year.
The top price ram was at lot 25 to Beegoodyee Farms, Wynarka, after spirited bidding, with the $8000 price setting a new stud record by $2200.
Representing Beegoodyee Farms, Tony Martin saw excellent value in the animal to add to his own ram breeding program.
The ram had 19.4-micron wool with 2.7 standard deviation, 13.8 coefficient of variation and 99.9 per cent comfort factor.
It also had figures of 5.6 weaning weight, 6 post-weaning weight, 8 yearling weight and 19.1 yearling staple length.
There were multiple volume buyers at the sale, the largest being interstate buyers Kinnon Brothers, Outamorella Station, Longreach, Qld, who navigated an extensive quarantine process to attend the auction in person and purchase seven to $3500, averaging $2450.
Greenwith Farms, Booborowie, bought six rams to $2400, averaging $1620; SJ&LM Cadzow, Spalding, took home five to $3800, averaging $3140; and DR Henderson Holdings, Caltowie, also had three to $5800, averaging $4900.
AuctionsPlus enabled interstate clients from Vic and NSW, restricted by current border closures, to buy six rams to $3000, averaging $2250.
Baderloo stud principal Dan Hammat was absolutely delighted with the result and thanked all those who made the effort to bid in person or online in today's difficult climate.
"We are so very excited about the growth of our stud and also the results our clients are achieving with their own breeding programs at home," he said.
"We are continuing to strive to produce sheep with growth rates, high fertility and a white, bright wool.
"The results our clients are achieving in these areas is what drives us".
Quality Livestock conducted the sale, with auctioneers David Whittenbury and Simon Seppelt.
