When Anthony Pearce was growing up while the rest of his family loved showing their Angus cattle he was always more interested in how feeding the show team.
So it is not surprising he has pursued a successful career in livestock nutrition which has seen him working with many dairy, beef and sheep producers across the state.
The managing partner of Mount Barker-based Hills Farm Supplies has shared his tips for feeding show steers to ensure they meet market specifications and achieve high MSA indexes.
Each year he provides feeding plans and mixed rations to many schools preparing steers for the Royal Adelaide Show and this year Steer Showdown and the RAH&S of SA's beef carcase competition
"There is only so much we can influence eye muscle area with feeding but where we can make a difference is the fat cover, meat colour and other quality parameters," he said..
