REBUILDING fire-destroyed tennis courts, activities to increase emotional wellbeing, and garden therapy are just a handful of the 22 projects that are set to receive a share of more than $820,000 from the SA Bushfire Appeal.
The Appeal will provide 10 projects on Kangaroo Island and 12 in the Cudlee Creek area with thousands in donated funds under the state government's Community Strength and Resilience Initiative.
To date, almost $6.4 million in Appeal donations have already been provided to families and businesses who experiencing loss as a result of the fires.
Human Services Minister Michelle Lensink said the gift payments are part of the almost $9m generously donated to the SA Bushfire Appeal following the devastating bushfires, which included a $2m contribution from the state government.
"We have been blown away by the generosity for our South Australian communities affected by the fires, with many individuals and businesses digging deep to help in this time of need," she said.
"We know that the fire-affected communities are now starting to look ahead and plan for the future, and it has been heart-warming to see such a diverse range of projects put forward for this particular Appeal initiative, which will significantly support the two communities in their recovery efforts."
Donations for the SA Bushfire Appeal have closed, but Ms Lensink encouraged non-profit community groups and organisations directly affected by the fires in the Adelaide Hills or on KI to apply next month for the second and final round of the Community Strength and Resilience Initiative.
"If you haven't applied yet, I strongly urge you to do so," she said.
Projects must address local needs and issues in the KI and Cudlee Creek fire-affected communities.
