A STEADY stream of prospective clients and onlookers were met with a showcase of fine rams at the Karoonda & Districts Stud Merino Field Day, held at the sun-drenched Murray Bridge Showgrounds today.

In total, 11 Poll Merino and Merino studs displayed a selection of on-property sale rams, as well as rams being offered at the Murray Bridge Classings Classic and the Adelaide Ram Sale.

Karoonda & Districts Stud Merino Field Day president Grant Johnson, Carcuma North, Peake, said more than 120 visitors from all over the state made their way through the gate - a good result considering the uncertainty caused by COVID-19 restrictions in the planning stages.

"The lead up and planning for the day was full of unknowns and we were unsure if we'd get the day off the ground so it's been pleasing that we've been able to have a successful day," he said.

"Visitors were pleased to be able to attend and get a look at the rams coming up in sales."

Mr Johnson said he had received plenty of positive feedback from visitors about the quality of rams on display from all participating studs.

"They were impressed with the quality of rams across the board and were certainly able to see sheep to their liking," he said.

"We've had a very good day, the stud breeders are happy and I'm hopeful the interest will flow through to the upcoming sales."

With hard SA-Vic border restrictions in force and many interstate clients unable to attend sales, studs have erected mobile phone towers to improve coverage for agents bidding, are interfacing with AuctionsPlus or providing interstate clients with photos and videos for private selection to lessen the impact of COVID-19 restrictions.
