A free online forum will explore energy options for primary producers which can replace costly and unsustainable diesel power supplies this Friday July 10.
NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) Energy Efficiency Solutions research officer, John O'Connor said more than 80 per cent of agricultural energy was supplied by diesel fuel, much of which is imported with relatively low supplies in the country.
There is also a general movement toward the electrification of the broader transport fleet including heavy vehicles, according to Mr O'Connor.
"This forum is the first in a series inspired by a groundswell of interest in alternative technologies," he said.
"We know producers and agribusinesses are interested in exploring new alternatives to reduce costs and improve efficiencies, and we aim to expose them to some of the possibilities which could best fit their operations.
"Transitioning to electrification for tractors and other machinery, alternative fuels, green diesel, batteries, hydrogen technology developments and current on-farm examples of how producers are adopting alternative technology will be on the agenda.
"Farmers are facing many energy challenges from fuel security to addressing climate targets and reducing carbon emissions - if we are to achieve significant reductions in human related emissions, an alternative to fossil fuel diesel will be needed."
NSW Farmers' Association president, James Jackson, will chair the forum from 1.00 pm until 4.30 pm.
The forums are organised and supported by funds from the energy related NSW Climate Change Fund projects and are tailored to meet regional interests and needs.
