The SA planning minister has released Kangaroo Island Plantation Timber's 799-page response document to issues raised in the environmental impact statement for its proposed port at Smith Bay.
The KI Council and other stakeholders are now reviewing the company's responses to issues they raised in the EIS process.
The next stage is an assessment report, followed by the minister's decision. You can see the proposal stages on the department's planning portal here
The SA Supreme Court meanwhile last week ruled on two easements on the seafront at Smith Bay, which KIPT says are favourable to its plans.
The easements were however contested by neighbouring Yumbah Aquaculture.
KIPT says it remains committed to plantation forestry operations, despite fires damaging 95 per cent of Island's tree crop.
KIPT has now received $30 million in progress payments on its insurance policy, as well as $5.9m to cover the replacement cost of fire-damaged houses and sheds.
It says it intends to to fund, construct and operate the port business from revenue generated from the salvaged wood.
The company also says the port could be used for other exports.
