AFTER gaining a Tertiary Education Score of 96.85, Bachelor of Agricultural Science student Edward Downing has been named winner of the Lois Harris Scholarship for 2020.
The Agricultural Bureau of SA scholarship, named in honour of former Ag Bureau board member the late Lois Harris, the scholarshihip provides $2000 to support of young people entering into the agricultural industry in SA.
The scholarship, which is in its 21st year, recognises high achieving students entering into their first year of tertiary education.
Agricultural Bureau of SA chair Mark Grossman said the Lois Harris Scholarship supported and encouraged young people looking to pursue a career in the agricultural industry.
"We are excited to present this year's Lois Harris scholarship to Edward, who is keen to pursue career opportunities in agriculture after his studies," he said.
"Edward will use the scholarship to help cover his living costs while studying away from home, contribute towards his HECS loan, and fund some travel to NSW and Qld to investigate advances in feedlots."

"Originally I thought I'd finish my degree and see where it leads me, but I'm really enjoying learning about irrigation practices and sustainable operations - I can already see areas for improvement on our family farm," he said.

"I am quite humbled and honoured to receive the scholarship and would like to thank the Agricultural Bureau of SA for making it possible."
