Current owner Tom Hutchinson said the Hindmarsh Valley property had been in the family ever since his great grandfather Young Bingham Hutchinson arrived at Glenelg on the HMAS Buffalo in 1836.

"My great grandfather was a surveyor working with Governor Hindmarsh to find a suitable location for Adelaide," Mr Hutchinson said.

"In his travels between Glenelg and the South Coast, he observed this land to be some of the best that he's seen and that's why he bought it almost 200 years ago."

While the property is presently leased as a long-term pasture program suitable for both sheep and cattle, Mr Hutchinson said it can also be used for the perfect rural retreat.

The area is expanding quickly with Mr Hutchinson saying that Victor Harbor is growing so far and so fast that its outskirts are clearly visible from his land.

"We've recently seen construction for new facilities for Coles, Bunnings and Aldi and we can only assume that other consumer businesses will open up along the Adelaide Victor Harbor Rd before too long," he said.
