Numbers, prices lift at Mt Pleasant sale

Nutrien Ag Solutions' Colin Fawcett said prices and interest were "very strong" on sheep and cattle.

"It's in line with what's been happening everywhere," he said.

"There was very much renewed interest in cattle, especially the liveweight ones, which can be hard to find."

He said much of this came from local graziers as more feed was starting to be available.

Kevin Eastman, Mount Pleasant, sold two steers, a Murray Grey and Angus, at $1860.

AMP Farms Trust, Tungkillo, sold a Santa Gertrudis steer at $1820, with a further two making $1740 and $1500.

D&M&C Schultz, Cambrai, sold an Angus steer at $1680 and another at $1520.

IS&SL Paech, Wynarka, offered two Red Angus heifers, which sold at $1460, as did a Murray Grey from RJ&KD Sibley, Angaston.

D&M&C Schultz sold two Murray Grey heifers at $1360 and $1340.

PG Keatley and TM Grech, Roseworthy, had three heifers make $1280.

A Red Angus cow from G&E Congram, Kersbrook, sold at $1900, as did a Murray Grey cow from RJ&KD Sibley. Both vendors also sold Murray Grey cows at $1840.

Semmler Bros, Lyndoch, sold a cow at $1280.

SB&R Vivian, Mannum,sold three cows at $1200, as well as a Limousin cow with calf at-foot for $2200.

Mr Fawcett said buying interest in the sheep yarding was also up.

"There was increased interest from local butchers, mostly on lamb and mutton," he said.

Lambs well and truly made up the bulk of the sheep yarding, with 355 offered, averaging $165.53.

The tops of these were a pen of eight from Floyd Roland, McLaren Vale, which sold at $214.

AK&SA Day, Nairne, sold 11 lambs at $210, while Poltallach Plains, Ashville, had 17 lambs make $202.

C Sparks, Jabuk, offered six lambs, which sold at $200, as did two from Treloar Farms, Angaston.

CH&L Wohlfeil, Karoonda, sold seven lambs at $198, while PV&PA Boucher, Mount Pleasant, had six lambs sold at the same price.

Treloar Farms also offered seven hoggets, which sold at $194, while four hoggets from Tucker Russell, Pallamana, made $176.

There were limited numbers of wethers, with a pen of four from McInnes Brothers Farmers making $146.

Denise Nou, Upper Hermitage, sold three ewes at the top price of $162.

Graetz Family Trust, Keyneton, sold 17 ewes at $152, while Graetz and Henschke, Keyneton, sold a single ewe at the same price.

RJ&EA Frahn, Rockleigh, offered six ewes at $146.

In all, 44 ewes were offered, averaging $140.

The next Mount Pleasant market is scheduled for July 9.
