Lamb prices climb to $222 at Mt Pleasant

A total of 376 sheep and lambs and 72 cattle were offered.

Nutrien Ag Solutions Fawcett Livestock's Colin Fawcett, Mount Pleasant, said prices were phenomenal as buyer interest peaked.

"Stock are getting harder and harder to find - so there is very high interest from buyers," he said.

"A major factor is securing smaller cattle to turnout is also increasing in difficultly, too."

Mr Fawcett said buying competition on Thursday last week was the best since COVID-19 restrictions were enforced.

A smaller offering of three lambs from Belmont Props, Keith, made the $222 top price for the lamb section but not far behind was the second-highest price of $200, for a 25 crossbred lambs from regular vendor Hearnden Farm, Keyneton.

Kluge Farms, Claypans, made $192 for nine lambs and Springton buyer KH Rattei made the same price for five crossbred lambs.

NJ&JD Allan, Tanunda, received $190 for a lamb and Angaston's Wootoona made $188 for 17.

The hogget section reached a top of $160 for 14 from Kluge Farms and F Gramazio, Dawesley, made the same price for one.

C&T Paech, Kersbrook, offered two wethers and made $150, while Brian Clothier, Angas Valley, MI&AK Family Trust, Woodside, each sold one wether for the same price.

Ewe prices also increased last week, reaching a top of $188 for 21 from Lower Murray Plant Wholesaler, Tailem Bend, while G&B Broadhurst, Kersbrook, received $148 for four.

Steers in the cattle section reached a $1560 top price for two Angus' from Kanmantoo producer, Vitary PTY LTD, and PA&FT Frahn, Mannum, made $1460 for two Murray Grey crosses.

Bill Gilkes, Mannum, received the same price for an Angus steer and sold another one for $1380.

One Murray Grey cross heifer from PA&FT Frahn made the section's top price of $1540 and the same vendor offered a further two and made $1420, and another one made $1400.

BD&LS Chapman, Balaklava, made $1380 for a black baldy heifer.

PA&FT Frahn made $1320 for their Murray Grey heifer.

Cow prices made the biggest gains last week, with a Santa Gertrudis from AW&DL Gray, Adelaide, making $1680, while two Murray Greys from K&S Pritchard, Williamstown, made $1420.

The next Mount Pleasant market will be held on June 11.
