Leading South Australian seedstock producers Tom and Lizzy Baker of Woonallee stud, Furner, have bought NSW-based stud Wombramurra Black Simmentals at Nundle.
In a statement to Black Simmental supporters, Wombramurra owners Peter and Judy Howarth announced the sale and Woonallee's potential plans to hold a Black Simmental bull sale in the eastern states in 2021.
Mr Howarth, who turns 80 next year, said he had intended to sell the stud next year but made the decision earlier.
"...but I have decided to move as quickly as possible to prepare Wombramurra as an example of regenerative agriculture and this would be better achieved if the property is run as a commercial cattle enterprise rather than a stud," he said.
"To this end all of the F1 Black Simmental/Angus females have been retained."
The new commercial breeding operation will be managed by the stud's co-partners, Andrew and Trudy Chapman but the annual Wombramurra bull sale will not take place in August. The bulls will be offered privately instead.
During last year's bull sale Woonallee paid the $14,000 top price for Wombramurra N271
It isn't the first eastern states partnership for Woonallee.
Last year they combined with Queensland Brahman breeder Brett Nobbs to unveil their inaugural Woonallee N and Gowrie Bull Sale at Duaringa, Qld.
Mr Nobbs, known for his success in the Brahman industry, made headlines in 2017 when he paid a record-breaking $160,000 for the Baker's Simmental bull, Woonallee Los Angeles. This sparked the idea for the Woonallee N collaboration.
