SA Grain Industry Trust funding will help 17 new projects go ahead in the coming year, with $1.8 million committed.
Programs set to benefit from SAGIT funding include tests of a pre-emptive fire retardant spray, speed breeding of new bread wheat lines for increased yields, grain industry internships in regional SA, a study of pulse root fungicide treatments and field trials to improve canola yields.
SAGIT chairman Max Young said with 2019 another variable season across the state, SAGIT funding was again expected to be lower than average.
SAGIT is funded by a voluntary grower levy of 30 cents a tonne.
"As per last year, we have dipped into reserves to allow good projects to be funded during these leaner times," he said.
"It is during these years we need to continue to fund good research and improve outcomes for SA growers."
