CATTLE sold strong at Mount Pleasant market on Thursday last week with demand for quality cows pushing the sale to a $1860 top price.
The market yarded 139 cattle and, 1117 sheep and lambs.
Nutrien Ag Solutions Fawcett Livestock principal Colin Fawcett said despite seasonal conditions, cows were in good condition but lighter weight sheep and lambs were yarded.
The top wether price was made by CJ&YE & Rogers, Clarendon, after three made $216, while IM&RJ Eats, Tooperang, made $216 for one.
Twenty-two ewes from Kanco Farm, Springton, made $226 and another three from R&J Sweetman, Red Creek, made $216.
The top lamb price was achieved by Hearnden Farm, Keyneton, who sold 14 at $232, with five crossbred lambs from RJ Powell, Brukunga, also making $230.
A Cushion, Mount Pleasant, made $228 for three and MJ Dunn, Brinkley, made $224 for 11.
Hoggets topped at $186 for four from L&M Schwarz, Monarto South.
The cattle section topped at $1860 for four Murray Grey cows from WR&BA Henderson, Mount Pleasant, while M Coleman, Rowland Flat, made $1640, for four Angus cows and WB&SJ Hurn, Craneford, made $1580 for three Angus cows.
Steers made to $1480 for four Hereford-crosses from IS&SL Paech, Wynarka, and D&M&C Schultz, Cambrai, made $1380 for one Murray Grey steer and another from the same vendor made $1340.
Heifers reached a top of $1380 for one Angus from MR GD&KH Rathjen, Springton, and the same vendor also made $1280 for another two heifers.
The next market is scheduled for April 2 but will be confirmed.
