JAMESTOWN
Yarding: 12,000
Wether lambs to $192
Ewe lambs to $264
1.5yo ewes to $282
Crossbred lambs to $190
ON THE back of recent rain in SA and interstate, prices at the Jamestown market on Thursday last week rose to impressive levels, with wether lambs in particular demand, topping at $192.
Many attendees said they had not seen wether lamb prices climb beyond that at the Jamestown saleyards, with Nutrien Ag Solutions' Andrew Parsons saying restockers were out in force to secure wethers for feedlots.
"Trying to find lambs in those big runs, from 1000 to 1500 or 1600, it's just unheard of."
Elders Jamestown's Scott Fleetwood said restockers were also "chasing replacement ewes pretty hard".
"It just shows the confidence people have in the meat job at the moment," he said.
Mr Fleetwood said there was "a good spread" of buying support across the state, with the sale being interfaced with AuctionsPlus helping to buoy the result.
