THE mayors of Hinchinbrook, Whitsunday and Mackay will be reelected unopposed in the March 28 local government elections.
First term Hinchinbrook Mayor Ramon Jayo has secured another stint in the top job, with no-one contesting the position in the northern sugar growing region.
Cr Jayo, who was born in Ingham, owns and operates a cane farm at Macknade.
Whitsunday Mayor Andrew Willcox, who was elected mayor in 2016, will also hold on to the top job uncontested.
Cr Willcox was first elected to council in 2012 and held the position of deputy mayor from 2013 to 2016.
Mackay Mayor Greg Williamson was elected to his current position in 2016 and will return for another four years with no-one contesting the fifth generation local.
Cr Williamson previously served as mayor for the Mackay City Council from 1991 to 1994 before amalgamation with the former Pioneer Shire Council.
The result elsewhere around the region won't be so clear cut, with constituents in the Burdekin, Cassowary Coast and Townsville having much to think about.
Burdekin Mayor Lyn McLaughlin is seeking reelection in the position as mayor for a fourth term.
Cr McLaughlin served as mayor of Burdekin Shire Council from 2004 to 2012, before Bill Lowis won the position.
Cr McLaughlin was reinstated as mayor at the 2016 local government election. She had previously served six years as a councillor from 1994 to 2000.
She will be up against Larry Bradford and Pierina Dalle Court.
Recontesting first term Cassowary Coast Regional Council Mayor John Kremastos will have two opponents in current sitting councillor (Timothy) Mark Nolan and Bryce Macdonald.
Another 27 candidates have nominated to contest the six councillor positions.
And regional powerhouse Townsville, the region's key export hub, will also be one to watch with three opponents coming up against Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill.
Cr Hill, who lead the city through the 2019 monsoon flood event, will recontest her seat for a third term after being elected Townsville's first female mayor in 2012.
Former LNP Thuringowa MP Sam Cox, who defected to contest the state seat of Burdekin for One Nation in the 2017 state election, has thrown his hat in the ring.
Other candidates include former rugby league player Greg Dowling, who accepted a large donation from a company owned by Clive Palmer to boost his campaign, and Woodstock man Chris Eastaughffe will also be running.
