Yerwal Estate enjoys improved average in Angus line-up

Overall, 35 bulls sold of 52 offered, averaging $5242 and topping at $8000.

The sale topper, Yerwal Resolution P122, was an August 2018-drop sire and was the heaviest bull in the catalogue - weighing 850 kilograms - despite being one of the youngest.

Sired by Sterita Park L195 and out of Yerwal K71, the bull had and an eye muscle area figure of +4.4, a 600-day weight of +130, a scrotal size of +2.9 and +13 for milk.

Buyer Max Williams, Oakview Farm Trust, Lochaber, was impressed with the bull's quick growth.

"Early-maturing is what we like about Yerwal, and why we bought (the bull), it really stood out," Mr Williams said.

"I liked its structure and conformation, and it ticked all the right boxes with intramuscular fat, eye muscle area, through to scrotal size, through to 600-day weight."

Stud principal Regan Burow was pleased with the sale result.

"The sale played out about where I thought it would - given the market and given the extra bulls, and I'm extremely happy with the bulls that lined up," he said.

Mr Burow said many regular buyers made purchases, with a few new clients present.

Radford Pastoral, Penola, was the sale's volume buyer, taking home eight bulls to $5500, averaging $4625.

MH Marwood and Co, Kingston SE, took home four bulls to $5500 twice, averaging $4875, while Kiwi Blue, Kangaroo Island, also secured four, topping at $6000 and averaging $5000.

The sale was conducted by Nutrien Ag Solutions Naracoorte, with Richard Miller as auctioneer, who said the bulls "sold to solid competition".

"There were a lot of low birthweight heifer bulls there, and high-performing cow bulls, which Yerwal can certainly build upon," he said.
