The state government has proposed changes to its wild dog management policy, including setting minimum baiting standards and creating a 35-kilometre buffer zone outside the Dog Fence.
In the buffer zone, landholders will be required to lay a minimum of 10 lethal wild dog baits within a 10km radius of each water point that contains water, regardless of evidence of wild dog activity.
Pastoralist John Rowe, The Oaks, Hawker, welcomed the proposed changes, and said baiting outside the Dog Fence would be particularly beneficial.
"We have to keep the pressure off the Dog Fence when it goes up, and that means baiting along the whole of the outside of the fence," he said.
He said a collective approach to tackling the wild dog problem was essential.
"All my neighbours bait, and it takes the pressure off when we all work together," he said.
Those with an interest in wild dog management are invited to comment on the draft policy until April 17.
