THE opening sale for 2020 at the Ouyen Livestock Exchange in Vic on Thursday last week attracted a yarding of 8532, including 7489 lambs and 1043 mutton.
Export crossbred lambs made between $204 and $290 or $7.30 a kilogram to $8.50/kg. R&F Dalton, Tempy, Vic, made the top price for 78 head.
Trade lambs made $163 to $212 or $7.70/kg to $8.80/kg, while store lambs sold between $67-$140 or $9-$10/kg.
Other vendors selling near the top end of the crossbred lamb market included Oakridge, Yarrara, Vic, with 72 at $286, M&M Farms, Carwarp, Vic, with 137 at $275 and G&L Bate, Mildura, Vic, who sold 40 lambs at $271.
Also selling crossbred lambs were M Pohlner, Kiamal, Vic, with 92 at $265 and Hunt Pastoral, Meringur, Vic, with 82 at $264.
Making $255 for their lambs were Brown Ag, Underbool, Vic, for 81, and Erhardt Partners, Galah, selling 80.
Just a dollar behind were K&P Kelly, Werrimull, Vic, with 76 and D&J Jonasson, Cowangie, Vic, with 45. H Munro, Ouyen, sold 58 at $252, as well as 50 at $236. F Stone, Torrita, Vic, made $248 for 21 head and Hall Farms, Mittyack, Vic, sold 30 for $212.
In the Merino lambs, prices for heavy pens ranged between $202-$219, while lighter types were $86-$160. The top price was paid for 110 lambs from M&M Farms.
Light mutton returned $104-$150 or $5.40-$6.60/kg, while heavier lots made the same price/kg, or $166-$207. CB Gorman, Euston, made $200 for 33 mutton.
Offering Dorper lambs were MGN Gibbins, Galah, Vic, with 48 at $236 and M&C Heintze, Murrayville, Vic, with 43 at $206.
