MOUNT COMPASS
Yarding: 650
PTIC cows to $2240
Unjoined heifers to $1400
PRICES were strong through the top end of the sale, with the best of the pregnancy-tested in-calf cows and PTIC cows with calves at-foot reaching a sale high of $2240 at the Mount Compass breeders sale.
ProStock Livestock's Scott Endersby said the sale results were as expected, with confidence down among buyers, following on from some recent tough seasons.
"The season has gone against people for the past couple of years, so they are cautious," he said.
"I think, looking back on this market in 12 months time, we'll be kicking ourselves that we didn't buy."
He said many of the top line had presented well, while "some of the mated heifers didn't have the weight or frame behind them".
Platinum Livestock's Ben Dohnt, Strathalbyn and Murray Bridge, said quality lines had been strongly sought and achieved good money.
"The market was more erratic on the plainer types," he said.
"All-in-all, it was quite a good sale."
With rain falling during the sale, Mr Dohnt said that may have spurred some people to buy, but more follow-up rain was needed.
"Breeder types will be in very short supply once demand from the eastern states after their rain kicks in, but locally, we're still in the selling phase," he said.
