KANGAROO Island's community and businesses devastated by the recent bushfires will be supported by a new recovery centre, which officially opens in Parndana today.
The recovery centre, located in the Community Health Centre building at 12 Jubilee Avenue, will provide a range of assistance and advice to locals, including how to access government grants, mental health and wellbeing support services as well as emergency accommodation.
Human Services Minister Michelle Lensink said the centre - which opens daily from 7am to 7pm - would be a place of support and information for locals.
"The centre will be a one-stop shop for the KI community and pulls the collective resources of the State Government, as well as community organisations such as the Australian Red Cross, where locals can seek help and advice in the coming days, weeks and months ahead," she said.
"The devastation to the KI community is immense and we're with them every step of the way as they get back on their feet."
The centre will be run by the SA Housing Authority.
The establishment of the new recovery centre means the relief centre operating at the Kingscote Football Club has closed.
National parks and wildlife executive Mike Williams has been appointed Local Recovery Coordinator to lead the recovery effort on KI.
Mr Williams will work with locals to coordinate recovery measures and help residents, primary producers, tourism operators and other local businesses navigate a way forward.
