LIVESTOCK SA's Cape Jervis hay depot transported its first loads to fire-ravaged Kangaroo Island last week.
SA Dairyfarmers' Association policy officer John Elferink said two trailer loads were in that first convoy, along with three army truck loads.
"But the challenge for the island is not right now, the challenge will be in weeks' and months' time trying to source more feed," he said.
"We are so grateful for the 400 tonnes we have received so far, plus a trailer load of pellets, but we encourage people to keep digging deep because there is thousands of animals on the island, particularly livestock, that will need our ongoing help."
LCL Heavy Haulage owner Peter Taylor donated his services and prime mover for the past week, while KI Freight has provided the trailers.
Mr Elferink said they had secured another prime mover for next week, but said more trailers would be needed.
