IT was a strong return to selling at the Mount Pleasant market on Thursday last week, where steers made to $1400 and lambs to $180 in a quality 1270-head yarding.
While there were offerings from the Cudlee Creek fire ground, most were in good condition, with burnt fences and pasture loss the cause of sales.
"Most of the sheep in the fire ground were store wether lambs and crossbreds," Landmark Fawcett Livestock agent David Schultz said.
"Producers will be wanting to save their feed for their ewes, concentrate on looking after them."
Mr Schultz was pleased to see good prices received, particularly after a slight drop in cattle prices at other markets.
"We also had some good demand for Dorpers, with competition from a number of buyers," he said.
Gerry Benker, Angaston, sold one Murray Grey at the top price, as did Clover Banks Pastoral, Mount Torrens, for an Angus, plus another at $1200.
Clover Banks Pastoral also topped the cow section at $1280 for four Angus-Murray Greys, plus $1260 for one Angus and a Red Angus at $1140.
D&N Broderick, Kersbrook, sold a Santa Gertrudis-cross steer at $1200 and a brindle steer at $1200, while GD Wicks & Son, Kenton Valley, sold seven Murray Grey steers at $1100.
RL&KR Kroehn, Eden Valley, sold two Angus steers at $1380, an Angus steer at $1100, a Murray Grey steer at $1100, and topped the heifer section with two Angus at $1140.
D&M&C Schultz, Cambrai, also sold heifers, with an Angus making $1080, a Murray Grey making $1060 and another Murray Grey at $980.
DG Carter, Eudunda, sold two Murray Grey heifers at $1080, while Barry May, Wynarka, sold one Murray Grey heifer at $980 and another two at $920.

In the sheep section, lambs sold to $180 for 11 from H Persic, Angaston, and 10 from R&J Sweetman, Red Creek.
G&C Spanton, Monarto, sold 14 lambs at $176, while C Buckby, Cambrai, sold five at $170 and six at $168.
Brett Clark, Callington, sold two lambs at $170, while RH Rathjen & Co, Millendella, sold 16 at $170.
L Higginson, Oakbank, sold 20 lambs at $168, while LL Schubert, Strathalbyn, sold 13 at $156.
Hoggets sold to $140 for three from Andrew McEwin, Victor Harbor, while wethers sold to $135 for three from LJ&JL Rowley, Myponga.
Ewes sold to $176 for 19 from HE Trinkle, Tanunda, while sheep sold to $140 for 10 from L&M Schwarz, Monarto South.
