It has been a big few months of markets, from the national records tumbling at the Naracoorte first-cross sales, through to the weaner sales. Check out some of those spotted at the state's saleyards.

Jayne and Anthony Gregurke, Parrakie, and Jarryd Finch, Elders Lameroo, in the $358 second highest-price pen at the Naracoorte first-cross ewe lamb sale.

PPHS' Robin Steen with Mark Keller and Cheryl Merrett, Farmers Leap, Padthaway, sold first-cross ewe lambs to $340.

Darryl Napper, Elders Bordertown, and Wayne Hayward, Lameroo, in the $350 pen. The Haywards averaged $325 across their 212 first-cross ewe lambs at Naracoorte.

Lydia, Eliza and Matt Johnson, Woolumbool, were selling first-cross ewe lambs at Naracoorte.

Spence, Dix & Co Bordertown's Kym Lovelock with Mark Harrowfield, in front of Mr Harrowfield's older ewes at the Bordertown off-shears.

Jim, Nathan and Ian James, Wendy James-Ross, Alec Ross, Andrew Evans and Henry Kroemer, Cooranga, Lucindale, in front of the wether run at their on-property first-cross sale.

LOCAL BLOKES: Rosstyn Taylor and Andrew Greig, both of Crystal Brook. Mr Greig offloaded 637 Merino wether lambs in three runs at Crystal Brook in October, selling to $134.

KEEN OBSERVER: Keeping an eye on the Crystal Brook market was Angus Johns, Alford.

Bevan Smith, Laura, in front of his 1.5-year-old ewes which made $123 at Crystal Brook in October. He also sold 58, 6.5-year-olds for $150 and 26, 4.5-year-olds for $145.

EP SELLERS: Travelling over from the Eyre Peninsula for the Jamestown market were Glen Cunningham, Scott Wandel, Jodie Wandel and Kimberly Wandel, all of Sheringa. 

Catching up at the Jamestown market were Don Greig, Willowie, and Malcolm Meier, Paskeville.

BEACHPORT BUYERS: Toby Hassell and son Henry were looking to buy some ewe lambs at Telang.

Hayden and Colin Rogers, Alford, were hoping to buy some wethers and ewes at Jamestown in November. With them is Peter Sims, Mundoora.

Hannah Jennings, Castec Rural, Naracoorte, with Tracey Wedding, Naracoorte, who was looking for value buying at the Angus feature female sale in December.


Southern Grampians Livestock agent Blair O'Toole, Hawkesdale, Vic, with prospective buyer Paul Dumesny, Port Fairy, Vic, at the Naracoorte Angus feature female sale in December.

Making the trip down from the Adelaide Hills to the Naracoorte Angus feature female sale were buyers Simone and Tomas Bond, Meadows, and Lorren Hampton, Echunga.

SALE-O: Bidding competition was strong on the entire ewe run at Crystal Brook in October.

MOTHER AND SON: Jo and Tyson Schellen, Ponde, offered a variety of cattle breeds at Mount Pleasant on November 14, totalling 20 heifers and steers, and a Wagyu bull. Tyson was also looking to buy some sheep.

SEEKING EWES: Mike Kuskov, Kersbrook, sold three silver Murray Grey steers and two heifers at the Mount Pleasant market on November 14, and was looking to buy some ewes with good meat and wool.

EXCURSION TIME: Year 9 students Lara Yarrow and Marcus McDonald, Unity College, Murray Bridge, were on a school excursion at the Mount Pleasant market on November 14.

HILLS VENDOR: Sallyanne Burton (pictured on right with niece Brooke Grigg), Tungkillo, sold 13 crossbred lambs at the Mount Pleasant market on November 14, which made $110.



TOP HONOUR: Border Leicester Association vice-president Neil Kroehn (second from right), presented the Best Presented Pen at the Mount Pleasant off-shears sale to vendors Craig, Mark and David Schultz, Cambrai. The pen contained 90 Border Leicester/Merino April 2019-drop ewes which made $284.

OFF-SHEARS SUCCESS: Scott Heidrich (pictured on left with son Bryce), Neales Flat, sold 103 ewes at the Mount Pleasant off-shears sale in November, including 83 Cloverlea/Bunyara-blds which made $274.

OFF-SHEARS SUCCESS: Andrew Smith, Sandergrove, sold four Dohne rams at the Mount Pleasant market on December 12, including two that made the top ram price of $110, one knocked down for the second top price of $96, and one at $80.

MARKET WATCHER: Graeme Dyer, Murray Bridge, was observing market trends at the Mount Pleasant market on December 12.

STORE SEARCHER: Glenn Loffler, Mannum, was looking to buy some Murray Grey store cattle at Mount Pleasant on December 12.

KI PRESENCE: Stuart Weir, Elders Kingscote, and David Hall, Kangaroo Island, at the Strathalbyn store cattle sale on December 13.

CARTING STOCK: Kris Adair (right, with partner Susan van Hengel), Meningie, was carting cattle for AW&F Hill Transport at the Strathalbyn store cattle sale.

FLEURIEU VENDOR: Brenton Jaensch, Inman Valley, sold four Angus heifers which made $1.96/kg at the Strathalbyn store cattle sale on December 13.

Peter Smith, Millicent, and Don Varcoe (right), Millicent, with Leigh Kent, Canunda, who bought 80 Nayook South Hereford steers at Mount Gambier for an average of $1029, to stock the neighbouring property he has just bought.

At Mount Gambier, Garry and Lyn Little, Tarpeena, bought 20 Angus and Angus-cross steers, as well as a draft of 16 Charolais steers, av 396kg, at $1200 or $3.03/kg from Dunorer, Hostpur, Vic.

Elders Auctioneer Aiden Auld at Mount Gambier with Jayden and Marley Rogers, Mandala, Kalangadoo. The Rogers family sold 63 Glatz Black Angus and Dollar Angus-blood steers, aged 9-11 months, through Elders Mount Gambier for an average of $1206.  Their 382kg top draft sold at $1210 or $3.16/kg to Kaicowrie, Penola.

Southern Australian Livestock Mount Gambier's David Fraser and Wally Jenkins, Nayook South, Allendale East, at the Mount Gambier store sale. Mr Jenkins sold an annual draft of 103 Hereford steers to $1140, averaging $1054.

FINAL RUN: Peter Pratt, Wirrillaholdy, Georgetown, has sold his property, and sold sheep for the last time at Jamestown last week. He is with Elders Gladstone livestock agent Simon Harding.
