BREEDERS were in demand in the cattle ring at the Mount Pleasant cattle and sheep market on Thursday, with cows topping at $1560 and heifers climbing to $1500.
Landmark Fawcett Mount Pleasant principal Colin Fawcett said while breeders sold well, store cattle and trade steers were also met with good buyer competition.
"Good quality cattle continue to sell very well, and there has been a marked improvement in stores," he said.
"We've probably seen that (improvement) over the last four or five weeks," he said.
Birdwood Horse Works, Birdwood, sold the top price cow - a poll Hereford cross - while DW Kubenk and Sons, Tepko, sold a Murray Grey for $1540.
The top price heifer was a Murray Grey, sold by P Opperman, Truro.
The second top price heifer was made by Kingsbelt Farming, Freeling, for an Angus heifer knocked down to $1100, with the same vendor also selling an Angus steer which topped the steer offering at $1400.
Mark John, Light Pass, sold a cow with calf-at-foot for $1020, as well as another at $1000.
