Hot and dusty conditions at Mount Pleasant's annual first-cross and off-shears sale on Thursday did little to deter a large group of genuine buyers, who bid fiercely and helped two saleyard records to be broken.
Topping the sale were 84 April/May 2018-drop Belmont/Inverbrackie/Rosebank-blood first-cross ewes from Tim and Kelly Brown, Brown Farming Enterprises, Keyneton, which made $340 - slightly higher than the previous saleyard record of $338, set in $2017.
The same vendors also made $338 for 78, which was the sale's second-top price, and had another 42 make $312.
Also in the first-cross ewe line-up, BR Eatts, Strathalbyn, offered 46 Inverbrackie/Kamora Netley Park-blds knocked down to $330.
Kym and Emma Graetz, Graetz Family Trust, Keyneton, sold 71 at $328, 30 at $306 and also had 52 wether lambs make $134.
IR&JW Johns Family Trust, Angaston, sold 52 October-shorn June/July-2018 drop Belmont-bld first-cross ewes at $324. G&JR Koopman, Charleston, made $322 for 40, and also sold 43 wether lambs at $134.
The University of Adelaide's Roseworthy Campus presented a large offering, including Inverbrackie-blds sold for $318 to John Kemp Livestock, with another 121 making $220.

First-cross ewe lambs reached $284 - a saleyard record for ewe lambs - for 90 April-2019 drop, October-shorn Belmont/Hilton Heath-blds from DN, MA&CM Schultz, Cambrai, knocked down to $284. The pen was awarded Best Presented Pen for first cross ewes.
Mid North vendors CS&AM Simpson, Jamestown, achieved the second-highest price for first-cross ewe lambs, making $280 for 80 Inverbrackie/Koonawarra/Lines Gum Hill-blds.
Avonbrae, Springton, had 73 May/June 2019-drop Belmont/Paxton/Rosebank-blds make $276, and SW&SM Heidrich, Neales Flat, sold 83 Cloverlea/Bunyara-blds at $274.
Making the highest price for wether lambs were DJ&JH England, Port Elliott, who sold 118 for $138, and PG Higgins, Kapunda, sold 194 wether lambs for $134.
Prices for older ewes were solid, with 19 3.5-year-old ewes from J&M Webb, Mount Pleasant, making $172. Yatara Props, Truro, made the same price for 150 April/May 2016-drop ewes, and also made $174 for 68 April/May 2017-drop Nyowee/Bunyara-blds.
Belmont Props, Springton, had 71 May 2015-drop Bunyara-bld ewes make $166, while FS Davidson, Langhorne Creek, had 66 4.5yo ewes knocked down to $150.
Landmark Fawcett Mount Pleasant principal Colin Fawcett said was pleased to see two saleyard records broken, and was pleased with the sale result.
"Prices were sound, and were solid and consistent," he said.
"Everyone who was there was there to buy."
Buying support was spread across a wide region, with pens knocked down to regions including the Mid North, Mallee, Yorke Peninsula, Fleurieu Peninsula, Upper South East, as well as local areas.
