Records continue to tumble at Ryeview stud, with a thick and meaty White Suffolk ram selling for $2100 at the stud's annual on-property sale held in Millicent on Monday, smashing the stud's previous record of $1700 for the breed, set last year.
Overall, 42 White Suffolks sold of 81 offered, averaging 950, while all 28 Border Leicesters offered were secured, topping at $1600 twice and averaging $1160.
The top price White Suffolk, lot 5, featured Lambplan figures of 11.1 for weaning weight, 17.2 for post-weaning weight, -1.1 for Pfat and 0.2 for eye muscle depth, with a Carcase Plus Index of 193.5 and Terminal Carcase Production index of 134.62. The ram was secured by M&K Judd, Tarpeena, through Green Triangle Livestock.
Stud principal Michael Osborne said the ram was a "thick, deep and meaty" sire, with a good hindquarter.
He said the White Suffolk catalogue got off to a "cracking start", but lacked bidders, with numbers down due to the tough season in some areas.
"We just didn't have enough buyers to keep the sale flowing," he said.
"There was some new faces, which was pleasing, and it was good to see the repeat clients too," he said.
A White Suffolk ram sold for $1400 was the 2019 annual donation by the Osbornes to the Millicent Cancer Support Group.

In the Border Leicester offering, the two top-price sires were bought by D&S Decourcy-Ireland, Millicent, who snapped up two other Border Leicesters as well, averaging $1500 overall.
The $1600 Border Leicester price was first achieved by lot 90, which had figures including 7.8WWT, 10.3PWWT, -0.6Pfat and a 138 ranking on the Maternal $ index.
Mr Osborne said the stud aimed to produce Border Leicesters which were structurally sound, with a deep body and a strong crimp in the wool.
Many of the Border Leicester rams offered were by a sire from Coolawang stud, Mundulla, who produced a Champion Border Leicester fleece at this year's Royal Adelaide Show.
Volume buyers included Murrabinna Pastoral, who secured 12 White Suffolk rams, while DL Chilton, Rendelsham, secured 13 Border Leicesters, to $1400 twice.
Four Suffolk rams were offered, which did not find homes.
Elders conducted the sale, with Tom Penna on the rostrum.
