QUALITY young ewes sold to $260 at the Murray Bridge feature ewe and lamb sale yesterday.
The 114 June/July 2018-drop Benefield-blood August-shorn Merinos were sold by Chad Burbidge, Ettrick, who also sold the sale's top wooly wether lambs - 138 June/July-drops at $144 - and another pen of 480 at $141.
Mr Burbidge said he usually sold more ewes, but he was rebuilding his flock.
The wether line averaged 40 kilograms at just over four months old.
Mr Burbidge said they were weaned at 6-13 weeks old onto good medic pastures.
MGW Wyndham, Copeville, sold 52 Glenlea Park/Benefield-bld wether lambs, April/May-drop August-shorns, at $142.
HT Hein, Murray Bridge, offered 45 May/June-drop ewe lambs, September-shorn Pepperwell-blds, which sold at $135, while BJ&SJ Boughen, Karoonda, sold 84 November 2018-drop ewe lambs, July-shorn Kamora Netley Park-blds, at $128.
JG Richards & Sons, Brinkley, were "very happy" to receive $252 for their 86 July-shorn, April/May 2018-drop Gunallo-bld ewes.
Glenn Richards said they normally also offered 5.5-year-old ewes, but were forced to sell them early last year because of the dry.
"This season has been much better," he said.

GA&JK Wagenknecht, Murray Bridge, sold 106 September-shorn, June/July 2018-drop Ridgway/Gunallo-bld ewes at $236 and also received $182 for 71 4.5-year-olds of the same breeding.
But topping the older ewe section at $194 was a "very happy" DL&LK Pearson, Brinkley, with 224 August-shorn March/April 2015-drop Ridgway/Ramsgate-bld ewes.
Also selling well at $190 was 101 August-shorn April/May 2015-drop Dalveen-bld ewes offered by RJ&EA Frahn, Monarto.
Landmark Murray Bridge's Kev Keller said quality ewes sold well, "while there were a few lighter lots, and the prices reflected that".
"Bu it was still a good strong sale considering the way the season is," he said.
