STRONG demand for heavyweight and store lambs headlined the Mount Pleasant market on Thursday last week, while the cattle job remained "sound", according to Landmark Fawcett Mount Pleasant principal Colin Fawcett.
Crossbred lambs sold to $238 for 12 from Bloomfield Equestrian, Mount Pleasant, while DB&HP Wright, Macclesfield, sold two at $222.
B&L Schmaal, Mannum, sold a run of four lambs at $192, Kym Abbott, Eden Valley, sold four at $178 and M Tsharke, Eden Valley, sold 12 at $175.
"The heavy end of the lambs was very strong, it waned a bit through the middleweights, but demand was pretty strong again once we got back on the lightweights," Mr Fawcett said.
Topping the hogget section of the market was GB&WR Schenke, Murray Bridge, who sold three at $150, while T&N Kennett, Brinkley, sold three at $146.
Wethers were sold to $140, with four from P&M Bulley, Pewsey Vale, making the top price.
There was a run of White Suffolk rams offered by J&J Ward, Woodchester, with two selling at $272 and another four selling at $250.
LD&A Zanker, Coonalpyn, sold the top price heifer, a Murray Grey cross at $1280.
Topping the steer market was Hill Neina, Murray Bridge, who sold two Red Angus steers at $1200, with CM Bond, Walker Flat, selling two Hereford crosses at $1140 and $1100.
Mocumba Park, Mount Pleasant, sold an Angus cow at $1500 and also sold the top-priced cows with calves-at-foot - a Murray Grey for $1990 and an Angus at $1720.
Major buyers in the sheep market were Australian Lamb Company and Thomas Foods International, while Princess Royal and Meat Barn were active bidders in the cattle ring.
The next Mount Pleasant market will be held on October 10, with Mr Fawcett expecting similar cattle numbers and a slight increase in sheep and lambs.
