FARMERS in the Mid North have gotten insight into the latest research for cropping in high rainfall areas with the Mid North High Rainfall Zone field day at Navan.
The day started with a look at crop trials at Freeling before heading to Navan where they got to hear about the potential of the newly-launched Mesonet and ideas for weed seed control.
The day also included a look at the new imiadazolinone-tolerant hay oat, Kingbale, which was launched at Hart and gained plenty of interest.
Other topics discussed were the impact of time of sowing, growing pulses on constrained soils, selecting varieties in frost-prone areas, dual-purpose awnless wheats and root disease control.
The day ended with a chance to decompress and chat about their biggest take-away messages.
