Allendale stud's supreme shortwool ewe from the Royal Adelaide Show, has turned more judges heads- this time at the Royal Melbourne Show.
Only a fortnight after its SA success the 16-month-old Poll Dorset, exhibited by Alastair and Jayne Day, Bordertown, made an interstate raid to claim the champion interbreed ewe title in Melbourne, Vic, on the weekend.
The daughter of Allendale 326-16 weighed 111 kilograms and had an impressive 52 mm eye muscle depth.
It is the second year in a row the Bordertown-based stud have won the interbreed ewe title.
I think she is exceptional, she's got a beautiful topline, she's got beautiful breed type and is structurally very sound.
- judge Brayden Gilmore
The three judges who spoke about the class all picked the 16-month-old ewe as their champion, including Brayden Gilmore, Baringa stud, Oberon, NSW.
"I think she is exceptional, she's got a beautiful topline, she's got beautiful breed type and is structurally very sound," he said.
Mr Day also rated the ewe as the best of his champion Poll Dorset ewes from Adelaide in the past three years for her "quality and thickness".
He said it was always pleasing to do well in the show ring.
"It shows we are breeding a good breed type and structure as well as what we are doing with our performance recording," he said
The stud will have 20 Poll Dorset flock rams and three stud rams by the champion's sire Allendale 326-16 in its annual sale on Friday, October 4.
Allendale also dominated the Suffolk judging exhibiting three of the four champions, including supreme exhibit with a ewe which was the reserve champion ewe at the recent RAS.
The stud's reserve champion ram from Melbourne will be offered in the stud's on-property sale as lot 32.
