WHITE Suffolk rams backed by strong data have sold well for Aylesbury Farm at Karoonda on Thursday last week.
The Krieg family sold 80 White Suffolk rams from 99 offered to $3000, averaging $1160 - a $59 increase on the 2018 sale.
Buyers were able to operate with a lot of confidence on the rams offered, which were backed by strong Lambplan data.
Stud principal Andrew Krieg has been selecting for high performance genetics for many years and the results are starting to show.
The Aylesbury Farm ram sale catalogue boasted an average of +17 for post-weaning weight across the entire offering, putting the stud in the top 10 per cent in Lambplan.
The top price ram at lot 3 sold to repeat buyer Darren Crouch, CLRS Trading, Rhynie, who has bought the top price ram for the past two years.
The ram was a triplet sired by Somerset 153 with figures of + 13.8 for weaning weight, +21.7PWWT and a Carcase Plus Index of +233.69.
CLRS Trading bought six rams in total to $3000, averaging $1666.
Other volume buyers included the Knight Family Trust, Peake, with five rams to $1600, averaging $1360; DE&LNE Hansen, Georgetown, with eight rams to $1400, averaging $1150; Maverick Farms, Karoonda, with 10 rams to $1700, averaging $970; and Rodwells Keith agent Craig Escott with 21 rams to $1400, averaging $980.
Mr Escott was operating for five repeat clients, mainly from the Mallee district.
"Aylesbury Farm rams are easy doing and hardy. Their lambs have plenty of length and look fresh. They are bred for the conditions," he said.
Mr Krieg was very pleased with the sale result.
"We had a good clearance considering the drought and ewe numbers," he said.
"Our aim of breeding high performance data with long, structurally correct quality rams is attracting repeat buyers that have been supporting Aylesbury Farm since the start."
The sale was conducted by Landmark Karoonda.
