THERE was a large crowd of locals and visitors from across the wider region in the Mid North to watch the Tony and Calvin McEvoy-trained Brown Ben, guided by jockey Cory Parish, claim the Heiniger Balaklava Cup.
It was something of a surprise win for the gelding, which had not won in almost two years, with many punters tipping Waging War and Charossa.
Despite the mid-week date, the Balaklava Cup always draws a crowd, with many companies from Adelaide to Balaklava - and everywhere between - used the event as a great way to let their hair down and have a great day out.
The event hosts as many as 60 corporate and private marquees, as people take the chance to dress up and enjoy a country race day.
