THERE was good competition for older breeding ewes, while younger ewes didn't make the heights expected at the Murray Bridge Merino ewe sale on Friday.
One-and-a-half-year-old ewes sold to $272 for a line of 74 August-shorn Dalveen-bloods from KD,ED,JC&MV Harvey, Woodchester, while 120 July-shn 5.5yo Kamora Park-blds from Inglebrae Holdings, Callington, made to $210 to Nampara Pastoral, Penola.
Elders Murray Bridge livestock manager Justin Robertson said he was suprised younger ewes didn't make more, but was also surprised by the strong demand for older ewes.
"It was a good quality yarding with well-presented sheep," he said.
"There was good bidding on older, proven breeding sheep."
As well as the $210 line from Inglebrae, Annerley Props, Geranium, sold 198 5.5yo Aug-shn Moorundie Park-blds at $202 to Nampara Pastoral, Penola.
Landmark Murray Bridge livestock agent Kevin Keller described it as "a bit of a tough day", with prices slighlty off what was expected for the quality lines of young ewes on offer.
Inglebrae sold the second-highest priced line of young ewes, making $266 for 53 1.5yo Kamora Park-blds sold to Westech Ag, Kaniva, Vic.
TR&NJ Kennett, Brinkley, sold 80 1.5yo Kamora Park-blds at $262 to Westech Ag, with RK&GB Duell, Bowhill, making $250 for 225 1.5yo Kamora Netley Park/Radnor-blds.
DL&JF Dutschke, Karoonda, made $250 for 191 2yo Kamora Netley Park/Greenfields-blds, while Whygee Pastoral, Karoonda, sold 66 1.5yo Kamora Park-blds at $242.
Amerylla Props, Strathalbyn, sold 126 June/July 2018-drop East Bungaree/Gunallo-blds at $234, and KP&KA Krollig, Bowhill, sold 254 1.5yo Kamora Netley Park-blds at $232.
RN&LA Bald & Sons, Ettrick, sold 128 1.5yo Benefield-blds at $232, while Mallee Slopes, Wynarka, sold 107 May/June 2018-drop ewes at $226.
WR&MJ Bowring made $216 for 99 2.5yo East Bungaree-blds sold to Marmon Pastoral.
DL&LK Pearson, Brinkley, sold 112 1.5yo Apr-shn Gunallo/Ramsgate-blds at $216.
BJ Egel & LR Crookes, Murray Bridge, sold 89 2.5yo Bunyara/Hilton Heath-blds at $214 to Elders Bordertown, with BJ&CJ Borrett, Langhorne Creek, making $202 for 60 1.5yo Dalveen-blds.
Murray Bridge will host its next prime lamb sale on September 23, with a ewe and lamb sale to be held on October 14.
